A dark Mexican maduro with mocha, red pepper and leather, at about $7.80 a cigar.

CLE Maduro 54x6 is the toro-length, thick-ring size in the newest wrapper of the CLE line. The wrapper is dark Mexican San Andrés, over a Honduran binder and Honduran filler, with Colombian leaf reported in the filler by two sources. It is rolled by hand in Honduras. A box holds 25 cigars, priced at $194.99 against a $324.98 list price, which works out to roughly $7.80 per cigar.

CLE introduced this line in spring 2025 as the darker counterpart to the Connecticut, and it replaced the older maduro-style blends that were discontinued from the core range.

Christian Eiroa kept the core blend and changed the wrapper, which is why the Maduro reads sweeter and richer than the Connecticut and carries real pepper. Cigar Aficionado scored the 50x5 at 94 points and described a spicy core of red pepper, cinnamon and ginger, with hints of leather and hearty wood. A Cigar Coop review of the shaped 11/18 size scored 90 and found mocha, earth and dried fruit, with coffee growing dominant and pepper building in the second half.

How it smokes:

  1. Early: mocha, cream, earth and dried fruit, with mild pepper
  2. Middle: coffee takes over and the pepper becomes more noticeable
  3. Finish: coffee and pepper lead, with earthy and dried-fruit notes holding through the end

Strength starts mild to medium and builds to medium, according to the Cigar Coop review. Cigar Aficionado's tasters called the 50x5 full-bodied, so strength is a matter of palate. Treat it as a solid medium that can feel fuller than the Connecticut.

Who it suits:

  1. Smokers who liked the Connecticut and want a richer, darker step up
  2. Anyone who likes coffee, cocoa and pepper in a cigar, with a smooth burn
  3. An after-dinner cigar when you have about an hour and a half

For the lighter version, see the CLE Connecticut 54x6. For more ring, try the CLE Maduro 60x6. The CLE Connecticut 50x5 is a shorter entry to the line. More boxes are in our premium cigar collection.

For adults 21+ only. Contains nicotine, which is addictive.

Flavor progression:

  1. First third: mocha, cream, earth, dried fruit, mild pepper
  2. Second third: coffee becomes dominant, pepper intensifies
  3. Final third: coffee and pepper lead, earth and dried fruit persist, cream fades

Notes are from a published review of the shaped 11/18 size, which shares this blend.
