Description
The original, compact expression of the Chateau Series Sun Grown blend, distinct from the larger Double Chateau in the same family. At 4.5 x 50, this Rothschild-sized Robusto wraps a dark, oily Ecuadorian Sun Grown leaf, grown near Guayaquil under the region's natural cloud cover by the Oliva family, around Dominican binder and filler tobacco from the family's own Chateau Fuente estate. The black-trim band and the black footer band distinguish it from the standard Gran Reserva releases, and every stick arrives wrapped in the series' signature decorative cedar sleeve.
The blend earned a 90-point Cigar Aficionado rating for its woodsy, sweet character and nicely balanced medium body, and independent reviews consistently echo that assessment: cocoa, dark chocolate, and sweet spice open the smoke, with a rich, slightly sweet and peppery tobacco character developing into a soft, creamy body across the first third. A caramel-like quality runs through the wrapper's natural sweetness, sometimes shifting toward a citrus or fruity brightness on the retrohale, and the aroma is genuinely pleasant enough that more than one reviewer's household specifically noticed and commented on it.
At this scale, the cigar produces notably voluminous, thick smoke, which some smokers find genuinely impressive and others find a bit much in an enclosed space. Construction is largely strong, though it's fair to note this isn't always Fuente's most flawless line, occasional larger veins and burns that need a touch-up here and there have been documented, a reasonable tradeoff at this genuinely accessible price point. For around five dollars a stick, most reviewers describe this as an easy, worthwhile addition to any humidor, delivering real Fuente complexity in a compact, forty-five-minute format.

- Opening: a slightly sweet, peppery tobacco character leads the way, cocoa and dark chocolate building alongside a caramel-like quality from the Sun Grown wrapper
- Mid-smoke: the profile settles into a soft, rich, creamy body of sweet aged tobacco, with sweet spice and voluminous smoke throughout
- Close: a fruity, sometimes citrus-leaning brightness rounds out the finish, the medium to full body staying consistent to the final draws
