Description

Intensity
MildMediumFull

After two years of Nicaragua-focused Syncro releases, Avo went looking further south for its third entry in the line. Ritmo is genuinely ambitious in scope: an Ecuadorian wrapper, a Mexican binder, and filler tobacco pulled from Nicaragua, Peru, Brazil, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, seven countries of origin in a single box-pressed Toro. Davidoff's own team described it at launch as the most intense flavor profile in the entire Avo portfolio, a genuine departure from the brand's traditionally Dominican-centered identity.

At 6 x 54, this box-pressed Toro opens with a lightly sweet hay aroma on the wrapper and a mix of subtle barnyard and white pepper on the foot, the pre-light draw carrying a mild spicy tingle. Once lit, a smooth mixture of wood and baking spice leads the way, with black pepper and sweet spice building steadily and roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and dried fruit developing as the smoke progresses. Roasted almonds and dry, earthy tones surface in the middle third alongside a creamy mouthfeel, and the retrohale carries a gentle, peppery finish that never turns harsh.

Reception genuinely varies on how well this seven-country blend actually comes together. Several longtime Avo reviewers describe genuine, layered complexity with real change-ups throughout the smoke, one specifically ranking it second only to the original Syncro Nicaragua among regular-release Avo lines. Others have found the sheer number of tobaccos working against genuine focus, describing the result as good on the whole but occasionally more of a flavor stew than a set of distinct, individually identifiable notes. Construction is generally strong, an even burn with a nearly invisible seam and a well-applied double cap, though the ash can run a bit flaky and two to three touch-ups are fairly typical across the smoke, never requiring a full relight. This is a genuinely bold, worldly cigar for Avo smokers who've already explored the Classic and XO lines and want to see what the brand does when it reaches beyond the Dominican Republic.
