Description
Kevin Baxter, one of Asylum's co-founders, described the Schizo perfectly when the line launched back in 2012: a short filler smoke that thinks it's a long filler cigar. This 6x50 is the size that lands between the Robusto everyone reaches for and the Gordo everyone talks about, same ring gauge as the smaller size, one extra inch of length, and it rarely gets mentioned even though it's arguably the most balanced format in the whole Schizo Natural lineup.
The Schizo Natural is built entirely from Nicaraguan tobacco, a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper wound around a Nicaraguan binder and a mixed medium and short-filler blend. Asylum has never dressed this up as anything other than what it is, and they've openly called the construction style "Cuban sandwich," meaning you'll occasionally find small pieces of tobacco in the draw rather than the smooth, uninterrupted pull of a full long-filler cigar. That honesty is part of the appeal. This is a cigar built to be smoked often, not saved, and the mixed-filler construction is exactly what lets Asylum sell a genuinely flavorful, well-made cigar at a price that supports lighting one up regularly.
At 6 x 50, the extra inch over the Robusto stretches the session to something closer to an hour, sixty to seventy-five minutes depending on pace, without changing the ring gauge and therefore without changing the fundamental balance between wrapper and filler. The Robusto delivers this blend fast. The Gordo delivers it wide, with the filler taking a bigger role at 60 ring. This 6x50 delivers the same profile as the Robusto, just given more time to sit with you before it's over. Made at Christian Eiroa's CLE Cigar Company facility, part of Tabacaleras Unidas, it carries the same medium body and cool, smooth burn the rest of the Schizo Natural line is known for.

Flavor progression:
- Opening: toast, nuts, and grain notes emerge from the Nicaraguan Habano wrapper, with a light sweetness in the pre-light draw
- Mid-smoke: coffee, wood, and earth settle in, with pepper and spice building on the retrohale over a slightly longer arc than the Robusto allows
- Close: a hint of cocoa appears on the finish, rounding out a straightforward, consistently medium-bodied smoke
