Description
The narrowest format in the Midnight Oil tier, and the one where the wrapper's role in this steeped, flavor-intense blend stays most consistently forward across the smoke. At 6 x 54, this is the entry point into Asylum's most concentrated flavored line before stepping up to the wider 6x60 or the marathon 7x70.
The blend and process are identical across every Midnight Oil size: a genuine Honduran puro base, wrapped in a proprietary Honduran leaf, submerged in flavored liquid or held in a closed environment to absorb concentrated aroma before curing, a more involved method than a simple sweetened cap alone, though this cigar carries both. The origin traces back to 2022, when Christian Eiroa and Tom Lazuka built three flavored blends for Deadwood Tobacco Co. under the name "Chasing the Dragon," later rebranded nationally as Asylum 867 in December 2023 after a trademark dispute with Drew Estate. Midnight Oil is the most intense of the resulting three tiers, and this 6x54 is its most compact expression.
At this narrower ring gauge, the flavor moves through its familiar arc a bit faster than the wider sizes. Sweetness and tea lead the opening, with black pepper and earthy undertones rising quickly to keep the profile from tipping too far into dessert territory. Cherry sweetness and cocoa build through the middle, with occasional spikes of raspberry, green tea, and citrus cutting through the smoke, before the infused sweetness recedes in the final third and raw Honduran tobacco character takes over, finishing medium to full-bodied without turning bitter. Given the shorter format compared to the rest of the tier, this is the size most smokers reach for when they want the full Midnight Oil experience without the 90-plus minute commitment the wider or longer sizes ask for.
