Description
Auntie is the gentlest entry point into Asylum's steeped 867 family, and this 5x46 sits at the smaller, more delicate end of the entire lineup. Where Midnight Oil goes to Asylum's signature oversized ring gauges and Zero uses traditional mid-sized formats, Auntie was deliberately built in small-gauge sizes, the idea being that as you move up through the three tiers, the flavor intensity increases alongside the ring gauge.
The origin traces back to 2022, when Christian Eiroa and the Asylum team developed three flavored blends for Deadwood Tobacco Co. in South Dakota under the name "Chasing the Dragon." A trademark dispute with Drew Estate over the Deadwood name led to a national rebrand, and the line relaunched as Asylum 867 in December 2023. Auntie is a genuine Honduran puro underneath a dark maduro wrapper, finished with a sweetened cap on top of a steeping process where the rolled cigars are either submerged in flavored liquid or held in a closed environment to absorb concentrated aroma before curing. The result is a flavor profile built around maple syrup and baking spice sweetness, with floral and herbal undertones and hints of apple and brandy layered underneath.
At medium body, this is the mellowest cigar in the entire 867 family, positioned as the starting point before working up to Zero's traditional sizes and eventually Midnight Oil's full-throttle intensity. Reviewers describe cream and cedar alongside the sweetness, with pipe tobacco and spice notes giving the smoke a slightly nostalgic quality. Construction has drawn some mixed feedback, at least one buyer found a particular stick packed tight enough to need a draw tool before it opened up properly, though most describe a smooth, easy draw once lit.
