Product Description
The largest commercially produced cigar ever made. Not a novelty. A fully smokeable, 7-hour Honduran maduro that contains more tobacco than 15 robustos.
The Asylum 13 Megalophobia exists because someone had to end the big cigar arms race once and for all. When Asylum co-founder Tom Lazuka saw competitors constantly pushing ring gauges higher, he commissioned Christian Eiroa to build something that could not be topped. The result was the Megalophobia, a cigar measuring 13 inches with a 134 ring gauge, two full inches in diameter, and weighing approximately 7 ounces per stick. A single Megalophobia contains more tobacco than three of Asylum's infamous 9 x 90 cigars. Nothing in commercial cigar production comes close. Lazuka branded it "Enough is Enough," and inside every box is a letter that makes that point in Asylum's signature unapologetic fashion.
This is not just a collector's piece. Cigar Coop's formal review clocked the smoking time at 7 hours, 6 minutes, and 11 seconds. The burn performed exceptionally, the smoke stayed cool throughout, and the flavor held from first light to the 10-inch mark. These are among the finest premium cigars Asylum has ever produced, built to an extreme scale without sacrificing the quality the brand is known for. This listing includes a box of 2 cigars, and production is strictly limited to 400 total cigars worldwide.
The blend includes:
- Honduran maduro wrapper, medium-brown with a rosado tint and a light oily sheen
- Honduran binder, providing consistent structure across the extreme ring gauge
- Honduran long-filler, handcrafted at CLE's Aladino factory in Danli, Honduras
- Exact blend ratios: not disclosed by Asylum, intentional as part of the Megalophobia mystique
From the first draw, you will notice:
- Earthy sweetness and bold pepper opening the first section
- Cedar and dark earth running as consistent base notes throughout
- Thick, cool, creamy smoke output that grows in presence as the ring gauge works to your advantage
- Spice building gradually through the mid-sections without becoming sharp or harsh
- A well-balanced, medium-strength profile that defies what you would expect from a cigar this size
The burn requires attention. Because of the 134 ring gauge, frequent touchups with a four-torch lighter are needed to maintain an even burn path. The included Palío Veneto four-torch lighter is the recommended tool and is included precisely for this reason. The ash runs loose and salt-and-pepper in color. At approximately 90 minutes per inch of cigar, this smoke does not rush under any circumstances.
How to properly smoke the Megalophobia:
- Use a chaveta or thin blade to carefully cut around the circumference of the cap, standard cigar cutters will not reach
- Use the included four-torch lighter or another four-torch lighter for the initial light and all touchups
- Use the included 3D-printed mouthpiece for a proper draw, the 134 ring gauge does not fit in a standard mouth draw position
- Smoke at an extremely relaxed pace, one draw every 45 to 60 seconds keeps the temperature ideal
- Plan a full day, or smoke it across a multi-session herf
Compared to other extreme-size cigars in the Asylum lineup:
- Megalophobia (13 x 134): the record holder, 7 hours plus, 400 total cigars produced worldwide
- April Fools (9 x 90): the 9x90 that preceded the Megalophobia, approximately 3 to 4 hours
- Ogre (8 x 80): the 8x80 flagship of the Asylum large-ring lineup
- Asylum 13 (7 x 70): the cigar that started Asylum's big-ring reputation, approximately 2 hours
- Asylum 13 Toro (6 x 52): the most accessible format in the 13 line, 45 to 60 minutes
This product is best suited for:
- Collectors who want the most extreme premium cigar ever produced commercially
- Herf organizers and event hosts looking for an unforgettable centerpiece that guarantees a reaction
