Description
Some cigars build a brand's reputation gradually. Prensado did it in a single moment. When Cigar Aficionado named it the #1 Cigar of the Year in 2011 with a 96 rating, an almost unheard-of score at the time, it didn't just mark a good year for Alec Bradley. It changed the entire trajectory of the company.
The blend behind that recognition centers on Trojes Corojo 2006, a wrapper leaf grown in the Trojes region of southern Honduras, an area whose full-bodied tobacco draws frequent comparisons to Cuba's Pinar del Río. That wrapper covers a Nicaraguan binder and a filler blend combining Honduran and Nicaraguan long-fillers, including additional Trojes tobacco for depth. Every Prensado vitola is box-pressed, and the Torpedo, at 6 1/8 x 52, tapers to a closed, pointed head, a construction style that concentrates the smoke and intensifies the aroma as it draws through the narrowing tip before opening into the fuller body of the cigar. It's handcrafted at Raíces Cubanas, the family-owned Danlí, Honduras factory that has produced Prensado since its 2009 launch.
Cigar Aficionado's original review called it as gorgeous a cigar as you'll ever see, with a picture-perfect head and a stunning wrapper, but noted it was the flavor that made it a classic: leather, chocolate, and spice notes building into a long, lush finish. That description has held up. The Torpedo delivers a medium to full-bodied smoke that opens with a quick shot of pepper before settling into layers of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, cedar, and a rich, structured leather character, with natural sweetness surfacing periodically throughout rather than staying in one place. Alec Bradley itself pairs Prensado with single malt Scotch, noting the malt's richness and subtle smoke complement the cigar's leather backbone while oak and baking spice notes mirror its warm, structured finish.

Flavor progression:
- Opening: a quick shot of pepper settles quickly into leather, coffee, and chocolate notes drawn from the pre-light aroma of cedar and coffee
- Mid-smoke: dark chocolate and roasted coffee deepen, cedar and warm spice building steadily as the box-pressed construction delivers a dense, even smoke
- Close: rich, structured leather carries through to a long, lush finish, with natural sweetness and spice lingering on the retrohale
