Description
Some cigar names come from marketing meetings. This one came from a Honduran tobacco field at night, lit only by flashlights and truck headlights, an experience founder Alan Rubin later called awe-inspiring, almost magical. His group pulled a bottle of whisky from the truck and toasted to the future of that tobacco. That tobacco became Magic Toast.
The blend built around that field combines a dark Honduran maduro wrapper, near-black chocolate brown with visible oils and a distinctive purple undertone, over dual binders sourced from both Honduras and Nicaragua, a construction choice Alec Bradley uses across several of its lines to add complexity and structure. The filler follows the same Honduran-Nicaraguan combination. It's all handcrafted at Raíces Cubanas in Danlí, delivering a medium to full-bodied smoke that opens with a toasty, meaty character, toasted bread and full pepper spice arriving right from the first draw with real intensity and a thick, substantial texture in the mouth.
What follows is a genuinely layered profile: roasted espresso and sweet earthiness on the aroma, black pepper and oiled leather rounding out the foot, with rich coffee bean balance carrying through much of the smoke against a pleasant earthen aftertaste. Several reviewers have noted the profile stays remarkably consistent rather than dramatically transitioning between thirds, the flavor and combustion working well from the very first light rather than needing time to develop. The final third tends to intensify slightly, leather and oaky campfire char emerging alongside that espresso backbone, with a brief nicotine kick some smokers find catches them off guard, though it's rarely described as harsh.
The band itself carries an art-deco design with stars and astronomical symbols evoking the night sky the cigar was named for, a small but deliberate nod to its origin story.
