Description
The compact expression of Alec Bradley's boldest Experimental Series release. Rather than using Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco only for the wrapper, the way most broadleaf cigars do, Double Broadleaf plants the same heritage seed in Honduran soil and uses it for both the wrapper and the primary binder, then layers a second Nicaraguan broadleaf binder underneath that. At 5 x 50, the Robusto delivers that intensity in the most compact, everyday format the line offers.
The wrapper on this size presents a dark mahogany color, smooth to the touch with just a slight oily feel. The smell coming off the cigar is dark malt and cedar, with charcoal and espresso bean aromas rising from the foot before it's ever lit. Cold draws bring sweet cocoa forward with hints of red pepper right on the tip of the tongue, and simply toasting the foot fills the air with the aroma of walking into a coffee roaster. Once lit, the Double Broadleaf Robusto comes on strong immediately: salty earth, coffee, porter, malt, and rye bread flavors hit hard and hold up across the smoke, a combination one dedicated review ranked as the single best release across Alec Bradley's entire Experimental Series, ahead of both Project 40 and Project 40 Maduro.
Made at Tabacos de Oriente, the Plasencia family's factory in Danlí, Honduras, the Robusto carries the same full-strength intensity as the rest of the line, built for experienced smokers who want bold, dark flavor without apology. Despite the initial punch, the strength stays manageable rather than uncomfortable, which is a large part of why this size in particular has become a favorite for smokers who want the full Double Broadleaf experience without the extended commitment of the Gordo or Gran Corona.
