Description
The widest format in Alec Bradley's boldest Experimental Series release. Rather than using Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco only for the wrapper, the way most broadleaf cigars do, Double Broadleaf plants the same heritage seed in Honduran soil and uses it for both the wrapper and the primary binder, then layers a second Nicaraguan broadleaf binder on top of that. At 6 x 60, the Gordo gives that intense combination the most room to develop across a genuinely long session.
The wrapper here carries the same dark mahogany to espresso-bean coloring found throughout the line, oily with a bit of mottling and only modest toothiness compared to typical U.S. Connecticut broadleaf. At 60 ring gauge, the burn slows down considerably compared to the Robusto or Toro, which lets the salty earth, coffee, porter, malt, and rye bread flavors that define this blend settle in and develop more gradually rather than hitting all at once. Cold draws still deliver the characteristic sweet cocoa with a hint of red pepper, and toasting the foot fills the air with an aroma reminiscent of a coffee roaster, but the wider format gives that opening more space to breathe before the smoke fully commits to its full-strength intensity.
Made at Tabacos de Oriente, the Plasencia family's factory in Danlí, Honduras, the Gordo carries the same full body as the rest of the line, one dedicated review ranked Double Broadleaf as the top release across Alec Bradley's entire Experimental Series, ahead of both Project 40 variants, and that same bold, dark character holds up at this larger scale. By the final third, body and strength settle firmly into full territory while the flavors stay smooth and balanced rather than harsh, espresso and earth leading the way with a natural tobacco sweetness lurking underneath throughout the extended session.

Flavor progression:
- Opening: dark malt and cedar on the nose, sweet cocoa and red pepper on the cold draw, the wider ring gauge easing into the smoke more gradually than the narrower sizes
- Mid-smoke: salty earth, coffee, porter, malt, and rye bread develop steadily across the long, slow burn, each note given more time to settle in
- Close: body and strength reach full while the flavors stay smooth and balanced, espresso and earth carrying through with natural tobacco sweetness underneath
