Of the four New World Dorado vitolas, three are parejos: the Robusto at 5.5 x 52, the Gordito at 5.5 x 60, and the Toro at 6 x 54. The Figurado is the exception, and it is a double taper. Unlike a standard Belicoso which tapers only at the head, the Dorado Figurado narrows at both ends. The foot narrows to allow the flame to find a smaller surface on the first light. The head narrows to a point that opens as the cigar burns toward the body. At the body the ring gauge reaches 56, the widest of any Dorado vitola, before tapering back down through the foot.

The double taper changes the entire experience sequence. On the first light, the flame makes contact with a narrowed foot rather than a full-width cut. This produces a gentler, more gradual opening of the tobacco rather than the immediate full-blast that a straight-cut parejo delivers. The sun-grown Habano wrapper, which opens with dry cedar, cocoa, and the Dorado's distinctive maple syrup sweetness in the Robusto and Toro, arrives through the narrowed foot as something more concentrated and precise. The first few draws are the most wrapper-forward of any Dorado vitola because the wrapper surface per draw is at its highest through the tapered foot.

As the cigar burns past the tapered foot into the body, the ring expands to 56 and the filler volume increases. The leather, vanilla, caramel, and espresso notes from the Dorado farm filler come forward as the draw opens up. Then, approaching the tapered head, the ring narrows again and the final draws become wrapper-forward once more before the session closes. The Figurado is the only cigar in the Dorado lineup where the wrapper leads at both the beginning and the end of the session, bookending the filler's mid-smoke complexity.

The double taper also demands the most from AJ Fernandez's construction team at the San Lotano factory in Ocotal. Tapering both ends consistently across a box of 10 requires precision rolling that straight vitolas do not.
