The original four Dorado sizes cover a wide range of ring gauges: 52, 54, 56, and 60. The Corona at 46 ring goes narrower than all of them. This is not a small distinction. Every eight to ten ring gauge points in a cigar change the relationship between wrapper and filler per draw. The sun-grown Habano wrapper from AJ Fernandez's Dorado farm, grown in direct Nicaraguan sunlight to be oilier, thicker, and more flavor-intensive than shade-grown alternatives, has its highest proportional contribution at the narrowest ring gauge available. At 46 ring the Corona is the most wrapper-forward cigar in the entire Dorado lineup, across the whole session, not just at a tapered opening.

This distinction matters because the Dorado's sun-grown Habano wrapper is where the blend's most immediately recognizable characteristic comes from: the pepper. Halfwheel's dedicated Corona review notes "focused pepper that hit the top of my throat with remarkable consistency," and at 46 ring gauge this consistency is structural. The wrapper surface per draw remains high throughout a 5 5/8-inch cigar, which means the pepper is not an opening flourish that fades into the filler's complexity. It is a constant.

Beyond the pepper, the Corona delivers what the rest of the Dorado lineup promises: toasted cedar, honey, vanilla, and oatmeal cookie notes from the wrapper as it settles, with caramel and orange zest developing through the mid-smoke and oak tannins in the final third before a sweet cedar close. The Criollo '98 binder and the Dorado farm filler contribute the leather, espresso, and nutty notes that the blend is known for, but they are experienced through the narrower filter of a 46-ring draw rather than the more open columns of the Robusto, Toro, or Gordito.

The construction on the Corona is Cuban-press, the same softer box-press applied across all Dorado vitolas at the San Lotano factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua.
