Description
The New World Decenio at its widest and most leisurely. A 6 x 58 soft box-pressed Gordo where the Mexican San Andrés wrapper integrates most quietly and the Honduran-Nicaraguan filler blend has the most room in any Decenio vitola to deliver its port wine, cocoa, and mineral complexity.
The Decenio line offers three sizes, each presenting the same 10th anniversary blend at a different pace and through a different ring gauge geometry. The Robusto at 5.5 x 54 compresses the profile into a focused 50-minute session. The Toro at 6.5 x 54 extends the same ring gauge across more development time. The Gordo at 6 x 58 changes the ring entirely, moving to 58 gauge and shifting the proportional balance between the Mexican San Andrés wrapper and the multi-country filler in the most meaningful way of the three sizes.
At 58 ring gauge the smoke is the coolest of the three Decenio vitolas. The wide filler column distributes heat across more tobacco, slowing the burn and allowing each component to contribute more gradually. The Mexican San Andrés wrapper, described across reviews as a toffee brown Colorado-range leaf with "medium oils, smooth texture, and small bits of tooth," is less assertively present per draw at 58 ring than at 54. This means the opening third's characteristic black pepper and toasted oak are more integrated and less forward than in the Robusto or Toro. The Honduran and Nicaraguan long-fillers have the most proportional contribution of any Decenio vitola, which is where the port wine note, the mineral complexity, and the caramel character that make the Decenio a 92-point rated anniversary cigar are most fully expressed.
Cigar Coop's dedicated Gordo review from April 2026 captured the arc precisely: "cocoa, earth, mineral, fruit, and white pepper on the opening," with the earth notes eventually becoming primary as the mineral, fruit, and white pepper settled into consistent background roles. The second third showed "a gradual increase in white pepper alongside cocoa and mineral notes." The construction was "very good overall" though the reviewer noted occasional wandering burn lines in the second third requiring minor touchups, a manageable quality note for a wide-format soft box press from the San Lotano factory.

Flavor progression:
- First third: cocoa, earth, mineral, fruit, and white pepper from the wide opening, the Mexican San Andrés wrapper's influence measured and integrated rather than aggressive, the Honduran filler's natural tobacco sweetness establishing
- Second third: earth notes becoming primary as white pepper gradually builds, cocoa and mineral notes sustained in the background, port wine character developing from the multi-country filler complex
- Final third: white pepper and earth leading, cocoa and mineral notes rounding the close, the 58-ring gauge's cool burn maintaining flavor consistency to the nub
