Product Description
The longest format in the Dominican Quattro lineup. The same 2003 Sumatra wrapper, the same Dominican core, but seven inches of development time across a 50 ring gauge Churchill that buyers describe as a cigar they "just wanted to keep going" even after two hours.
The Concerto is the largest vitola in the Aging Room Quattro Original lineup, and the name fits the format in more than one way. Rafael Nodal, a classically trained pianist and violin player, named every size in the Quattro line after a musical term. A concerto is a longer, multi-movement composition for a soloist and orchestra. It develops across distinct phases, building in complexity before resolving. The Aging Room Quattro Concerto at 7 x 50 is built the same way. Seven inches gives the blend more room to develop through its phases than the Vibrato's 6 x 54 or any shorter size in the line, and the narrower 50 ring gauge focuses the smoke in a way that concentrates the flavor delivery rather than diffusing it across a larger diameter.
The blend is the same award-winning Dominican Sumatra formula that earned the Quattro Original its #2 Cigar of the Year distinction from Cigar Aficionado in 2013. Jochy Blanco's Tabacalera La Palma in the Dominican Republic produces the Concerto with the same aged Indonesian Sumatra wrapper that Rafael Nodal acquired from a German manufacturer that had been holding it since the 2003 harvest with no buyer in sight. That wrapper, dark tan, rustic, and carrying the natural sweetness and earthiness of well-aged Sumatra leaf, drove the Quattro's recognition in the first place.
In the Concerto format the development arc is the most pronounced of any Quattro Original size. The first half opens with light spice mixed with bread notes, smooth and mild with a hint of nuttiness. The spice builds toward the end of the first half, joined by unexpected fruit notes that reviewers consistently find surprising and enjoyable. The second half adds earthy depth and keeps the spice present while cedar, coffee, and leather work through to the finish.
